In A Coruña we are organizing the following activities within the Anita Borg Week.

WikinformáticA is a contest for High Schoolers in which they will have to ellaborate a Galician wiki about outstanding women in the IT history. the organization will collaborate with the Galipedia in order to incorporate all the content.

The winners will be awarded a visit to the R headquarters in A Coruña and a 3D-printer, thanks to the CPEIG (Professional Association of Computer Engineering of Galicia).

The 28th and 29th of January, in the Faculty of Computer Science (Víctor Gulías Lecture Room), together with the Office for Gender Equality, we will celebrate the Anita Work Week.

Who is expected to attend?

Everybody! The Anita Borg Week does not have a program only for women or computer scientists. The goal is still to promote the role of women in Computer Science, but our speakers will talk about business success, being part of developer groups and online personal brand. Take a closer look to the program and do not forget to ask your questions to the speakers.

Carme Miró. Apple Tree.

  • Carme Miró has more than 20 year of expertise as consultant of Marketing and Communication strategies for large companies. She has created two successful companies: Cluster Consulting, global leader of IT consulting (today Oliver Wyman), and apple tree communications.

    She studied Economics in the University of Barcelona, where she was the first woman leading AIESEC in Spain, and an MBA in the MIT, Boston. She is one of the only 4 Spanish members of the MIT Executive Board.

  • In 1993, she was co-founder of Cluster Consulting, that, in a few years, became a global leader in IT consulting. In 2000, the company had 600 employees, 12 offices in 8 countries and was publicly traded on the NASDAQ. The merge of Cluster with Diamond Technology Partners is still the fifth larger M&A operation in the Spanish history.

    In 2003, she left her position in Cluster Consulting to found apple tree communications together with Kirsty Brown and Olivia Walsh.

    Today, apple tree has more than 60 employees in Barcelona, London and Madrid, and it works with global brands like BMW, Google, Nike, Novartis, Salesforce and Spotify.

    Carme Miró has led successful and renowned communication strategies, like the sponsoring agreement between UNICEF and the F.C.Barcelona, and worked in communication campaigns for the Manchester City Football Club, Nike or Sanofi, among others.

Verónica Ramallal. Pekecha.

  • Verónica Ramallal Pekecha
  • Verónica Ramallal got her degree in Media Communication in the University of Vigo, she studied a Master in the Media School of La Voz de Galicia and an Educational Abilities Course in the University of A Coruña.

    After working with renowned Galician media, like La Voz de Galicia or Televisión de Galicia and several radio channels, in 2010 she became part of the O Apóstolo team ( Xacobeo 2010), working in the department of digital marketing and events organization.

  • Then, she started working in Cambur (Social Media Agency in A Coruña), where she was Social Media Strategist and Community Manager for relevant brands in Galicia and South America (mainly Panamá and Venezuela).

    In 2012, she founded her own company: Pekecha, a Social Media and Personal Branding company. During the last years, she has worked with institutions and companies, especially with enterpreneurs and new business models.

  • Mariel Martínez
  • Mariel Martínez is Computer Engineer by the University Oberta de Catalunya and enthusiastic about new technologies. She is co-founder of INDENEXT, a company of innovative technology solutions in software development, where she is product manager. Moreover, she is co-founder of ameiga, a company of videogames development that applies the last technology trends in mobile devices. She is Organizer of the Google Developers Group in Vigo (GDG Vigo). This community focuses on IT developers and outreach of technical content, she is responsible of organizing workshops, tech talks and hackathons. Committed with enhancing the role of women in Computer Science, she works in a new project, Tech&Ladies, with the goal of increasing the visibility of women in ICT.
